2013 Acura RDX

January 9, 2012 by , under Acura RDX.

The RDX grows up for model-year 2013, trading its sporty exterior styling cues and turbo four-cylinder for a more polished profile and a new V-6 engine.

The second generation compact SUV rides on a longer wheelbase than the previous version. At 183.5 inches long and 64.2 inches high, it’s about 1 inch longer than the previous version, but loses an inch in height. It also gets a sleeker look outside and more leather inside.

At a time when most automakers are downsizing in the cylinder department, Acura is dropping the previous RDX’s 240-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. Instead, the new one borrows a version of the 3.5-liter V-6 found in the TL. In the 2013 RDX, it makes 273 hp. The sole transmission is a six-speed automatic with a new torque converter. Acura anticipates that the RDX will see 20/28 mpg city/highway.

New features include a revised all-wheel-drive system, a power tailgate, a Pandora internet radio interface, SMS texting functionality, keyless access and push-button starting, a tri-view camera and a new navigation system with 60 gigabytes of storage.

No word on pricing, but the redesigned RDX should go on sale this spring.

Car and Driver Magazine has just posted spy photos of the 2013 Acura RDX, revealing a familiar shape that hints few changes may be made to the exterior styling of the luxury compact SUV.

The 2013 Acura RDX spy photos reveal subdued changes to the front-end styling, such as sleeker headlights that appear to come directly off the new TL, and only one of the two lower intakes that appear on the current model. The rear end of the 2013 RDX appears to have a wider opening for the rear hatch, which will be an important improvement for those who need to haul things.

Car and Driver predicts not many changes will be made under the hood since the turbocharged, 240-hp, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine in the current RDX is already top-of-the-line, and its 19-mpg city/24 highway EPA is better than many of its competitors

A loosely disguised RDX “concept” is expected to appear at an auto show this winter, either in L.A. in November or Detroit in January, in advance of the 2013 RDX production model hitting dealerships in late 2012, Car and Driver says.

In the meantime, check out the current 2011 and 2012 Acura RDX – on sale now at Acura of Tempe – at our Tempe Acura dealership in the Tempe Autoplex.

Today’s new cars and trucks are more technologically advanced than ever, which poses a challenge for automakers to design and build vehicles that meet the high levels of quality consumers have come to expect. That’s why studies like J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study (IQS) are so important for consumers to consider when buying a new car – they serve as an important tool for consumers in evaluating the quality and design of new vehicles.

This year, the Acura brand finished third overall in the 2011 IQS — right behind its parent company Honda, which led the industry with seven models earning the highest quality score in their segment.

Two Acura models landed the top three spots in their segment: the Acura TSX and the Acura RDX. These models ranked high on J.D. Power and Associates’ 2011 IQS in terms of Overall Quality, Powertrain Quality, Body & Interior Quality, and Features & Accessories Quality.

It comes standard with an impressive array of high-end features, including leather upholstery, 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, a sunroof, heated power front seats with driver memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a seven-speaker CD audio system with satellite radio and iPod integration.

The 2011 RDX is a sporty crossover that comes standard with front-wheel drive, leather upholstery, full power accessories, 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a seven-speaker audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, and more. Under the hood is a standard turbocharged 2.3-liter, four-cylinder, rated at 240 horsepower.
